Congratulations to Tana Deyell of RBYC (sailing Lazarus) – the 2019 George Mac Champion
Two great days of sailing with 175 sailors racing 130 boats across 16 divisions, completing 78 races on 3 courses, as well as a Tackers event on the Sunday morning. Conditions varied a little over the 2 days, with Saturday giving us Champagne conditions with a steady S-SE ranging 12-15 knots; and Sunday being a little slower to start but eventually giving us a reasonable 5-10 knot Northerly to finish off the regatta.
We also had the privilege this year of incorporating two Victorian State Titles into the George Mac:
1. the 2019 Finn States which was won by Rob McMillan sailing on NB Sailsports
2. the 2019 RS100 States which was won by David Williamson on board Willpower
A big thank you to our 66 Volunteers and 4 Sailing Office staff who collectively gave some 140 days of work over the weekend (equivalent to one person working full time for 6 months). Also a big shout out to our PRO Paul Pascoe, our 3 CRO’s Peter Osbourne, Peter Merritt and Simon Tedstone; as well as our two RO’s in Finish Boats, Glenys Hitchens and John Spencer.
We are very grateful to Gill who donated a great range of prizes; Sirocco Marine who loaned us a beautiful Brig Eagle 610 as media boat; and sailingResults.net for their fantastic support. We were also keen to make this years regatta an environmentally friendly event, signing up to Sailors for the Sea (http://sailorsforthesea.org/), so thanks to PwC who donated reusable water bottles for every sailor and volunteer, helping us reduce our use of single use water bottles and hence our impact on the environment.
So that’s a wrap – full results and photos below; see you next February for the George Mac 2020!
